Internet Marketing Glossary
Definition: Authority Page
An authority page is a page that, in the eyes of the search engines, is authoritative on its subject. A topic-relevant link from an authority page is generally more valuable than many links from non-authoritative pages, so these are the types of links you should seek out. Your website can also come to be considered an authority page by the search engines, and this can have a dramatic impact on your rankings and traffic.
Factors that influence whether or not a page is considered an authority page include:
Examples of authoritative pages/websites include:
- The Lancet (many pages authoritative on medical/scientific matters)
- Google's Webmaster Guidelines Page (authoritative page on acceptable Google-optimization techniques)
- UC Berkeley's Online Search Tutorial
